Kevin J. Barker - Bio


Atlantic Home Group was founded in 2017 by Kevin Barker out of a passion for all things modern, both in design, leading edge technology and custom materials.  His extensive career in custom home building and remodeling, as well as his project management and communication skills are the key tools with which Atlantic Home Group is being built.   

From 1991 to 2005 Kevin was managing general contractor for his own residential building company constructing 42 custom residences ranging in size from 2150 to 13500 s.f. with a total closed sales volume of $24.5 million.  He had full project management and operational responsibility from: site selection, design, structural engineering, orientation layout and survey, specification design and bidding, to budgeting and contracting.  Kevin has a thorough working knowledge of structural framing, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, their functional layout and accurate installation.  He is a stickler for finish detail as it relates to quality and customer satisfaction.  

Leaving Colorado for the East Coast in 2005 Kevin has worked for three large design/build remodeling and renovation firms in Northern Virginia, Silver Spring and Bethesda Maryland as their Production Manager.  He revamped their field operations to increase productivity, safety and customer satisfaction. 

Kevin’s task management experience includes detailed job costing; project management, scheduling and cost tracking- software proficiencies, custom materials selection and management, budget formulation and tracking, as well as the hiring and management of subcontractors and vendors.  He has strong interpersonal communication skills, advanced problem solving training, and an extensive and progressive tenure in professional development.  

In 2003 Kevin completed a 1.8M custom home featured on the Fall 2003 front cover of the Boulder County Home & Garden magazine.  He has also served as the Vice President of the Longmont Chapter of the Homebuilders Association of Metropolitan Denver.

Early in his career out of college Kevin spent six years as a high school teacher of history, five successful seasons coaching high school basketball, two years directing an athletic department, and two years in educational administration.  He was voted by his peers as high school Teacher of the Year in 1982 and All Conference Varsity Basketball Coach of the Year in 1985.  

Kevin and his wife Ling, who is an accomplished classical soprano, are very involved in the arts.  Their free time tough is spent with their amazing Goldendoodle Max.  Kevin and Ling also have three grown sons and two granddaughters.  One son lives and works in Taiwan and is in education, their youngest son is in network security and the oldest Jonathan, is a custom home builder in Colorado.     

Kevin received his BA in Sociology from William Jewell College in 1980 and his MA in School Administration from Grace College in 1985.
